SCITECH has introduced the ReporteR which is said to be the latest advancement in simple, rapid, non-destructive material identification.
The technology can improve mine site safety through identifying explosives, plastics and industrial chemicals which could pose a threat to workers.
The ReporteR is a palm-sized, portable Raman spectrometer that rapidly identifies materials through their unique spectroscopic signature.
Scitech says the palm-sized ReporteR, weighs less than 311g and can rapidly identify unknown substances in just 10 seconds.
Unlike chemical pouch and swab kits, this is a simple and non-destructive test that can be performed on less than 100mg of sample enclosed in a plastic bag or glass vial. This allows the user to preserve the evidence for con?rmatory testing for trial procedures. Field data is saved in a simple report format.
Scitech says the ReporteR offers real-time and accurate identification of an unknown substance occurs by comparing its unique molecular fingerprint to reference materials stored in a spectral library. Results are displayed on a highly visible LED display that enables non-technical users to employ the device. The ReporteR is customer programmable for new material library entries and software up-grades.
