The elimination of separate measuring instrument versions, each dedicated to either safety or basic control, contributes to reduced life cycle costs. Endress+Hauser made the choice to provide all safety related instrumentation with a single standard class that can be used for the following:

  • "Proven in use"
  • ANSI/ISA 84.00.01-2004 (IEC 61511)
  • Basic process control applications

To achieve this Endress+Hauser employs the required IEC 61508 processes on all these products. The emergence of ANSI/ISA 84.00.01-2004 (IEC 61511) and IEC 61508 standards are giving (SIS) engineers better tools to model and evaluate Safety Instrumented System (SIS) designs.

Components used in safety systems are available with SIL-metrics that allow Probability of Failure on Demand Average (PFDAVG) and the Mean Time To Failure Spurious (MTTFSP) to be modelled.

This goes a long way to ensure that the SIS being designed not only addresses the desired Safety Instrumented Function (SIF) and target Safety Integrity Level (SIL) but also the desired availability.
