MineARC 4HRM PLP powerless, ultra-mobile 4 person chamber

  • Published: 08/04/2009

MINEARC Systems has announced the development of the 4HRM-PLP (4-Person Hard Rock Mine, Powerless Portable refuge chamber) to improve mining safety by offering a safe refuge during an emergency.

MineArc Systems says the technology is a response to the need for a small, lightweight and highly portable refuge chamber for use in single entry headings.

The 4HRM —PLP measures just 1.5metres high x 1.8metres wide x 1.8metres in length — easily loaded onto the back of a flat-bed truck and then transported to virtually any location. The unit can then be loaded off the truck using an IT (Integrated Tool-carrier) and placed directly at the working face.

The 4HRM-PLP utilises MineARC’s revolutionary new technology; the Intrinsically-Safe (non-electrically powered) Scrubber/Air-con System. The powerless scrubber removes carbon monoxide & carbon dioxide from inside the refuge chamber, whilst also cooling the interior of the chamber via the air-con unit. The scrubber/air-con requires no electrical power supply, eliminating the need for external electrical services to be supplied to the refuge chamber. The 4HRM-PLP has a stand alone operating duration of 36hrs.

The MineARC 4HRM-PLP complies with the WA Guidelines for Refuge Chambers in Underground Metalliferous Mines and was developed with the help of major WA mine operators, two of which, have already placed orders for the unit.
