Yawning miners, a serious mining safety hazard

BARRISTER John Tate has told attendees at a Queensland underground mine safety conference that fatigue is a big problem for the mining industry.

Tate, who has been involved in mine fatality inquires, says that fatigue is an emerging safety issue, which will take the community quite a number of years to work through.

The spokesman for mining safety says the key to safety in mines is how people are managed and supervised, not rules and legislation.
