THE FAMILY of a girl who has been found to have elevated blood lead levels is suing Xstrata Mining.

The family lives in Mount Isa, Queensland close to Xstrata mining operations.

The seven-year-old girl’s doctor says that lead exposure could be the cause of her recently diagnosed arthritis.

The family has also launched a civil damages claim against the State Government and Mount Isa City Council.

Industry officials say they are concerned for the safety of the community.
