WorkSafe warns Victorians it will be paying a house visit

WORKSAFE has announced its first port of call for safety inspections will be Maryborough, Victoria.

The authority’s first 2009 workplace safety campaign will see inspectors visit workplaces and check on the management of common safety issues between February and June.

WorkSafe says despite plenty of warning of the visits many people fail to act and consequently received safety improvement notices. The body says employers and managers need to take responsibility for safety.

On inspection officers will offer help and advice on how to resolve safety issues, but where there are hazards safety improvement notices will be issued.

The organisation says in most cases safety improvements can be made at little or no cost to avoid serious human and commercial consequences.
