WorkSafe Victoria releases information brochure on emergency management

WORKSAFE Victoria has released a publication titled ‘Emergency Management in the Minerals Resources Sector’ which provides information on emergencies in mines.

The document will inform the reader about Victoria’s emergency management arrangements, and provide advice on emergency response.

While the mineral resources sector has a strong safety culture built on long experience, emergencies may still arise. To cope with these emergencies, the Victorian emergency service agencies work with the minerals industry to counter on-site situations.

The document provides information about the roles and responsibilities of Government agencies and the owners, operators and managers of mines, quarries and other earth resources operations.

The information brochure will inform and guide all stakeholders about the Victorian emergency management arrangements. It also provides advice on the capability of those agencies with the statutory responsibility for taking control of an emergency, and those responsible for coordinating the response of the many organisations that may become involved.

The brochure was developed jointly by the Minerals Council of Australia, Victoria Police, CFA, Ambulance Victoria and WorkSafe Victoria.
