WORKSAFE Victoria has released a guidebook focusing on the safety risks associated with air receivers.
WorkSafe says air receivers have the potential to seriously hurt people and damage property if they are not properly installed or maintained.
The ‘Working Safely with Air Receivers’ guidebook is designed to improve awareness of the risks associated with air receivers and explain ways to eliminate and reduce such risks.
The safety body says employers with air receivers must ensure they are properly maintained to reduce the risk of explosion or fire.
Some receivers must be registered with WorkSafe as an item of ‘plant’. Inspectors will be checking equipment during workplace visits from January 2009.
The safety body has provided information on its website to help employers determine if they need to register their devices. The information and guidebook can be accessed online www.worksafe.vic.gov.au.
