A NEW Zealand 26-year-old man has been killed while working at the Kanowna Belle gold mine about 20km east of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.

Police say Daniel Williams fell from an ore path at the mine about 1.40am on 8 August 2009. He died at the scene.

A government safety watchdog is investigating the accident but the Australian Workers Union is calling for a parliamentary inquiry into mine safety.

It was the fourth fatality in the industry this year and the eighth in the past 14 months.
