Unions want job security clauses for mine workers

The CFMEU will test Labor's workplace laws by demanding a 'job security clause' for mine workers.

The group wants the clause put into new enterprise agreements with mining companies in a bid to limit job cuts, shield experienced workers from retrenchment and wind back the use of contract employment.

Workers from Xstrata's United Colliery coal mine in NSW Hunter Valley have gone on a four-day strike to support the move.
