U.S Mine takes out safety award

CLEVELAND-Cliffs has taken out a prestigious award for safety performance throughout 2007 in the U.S.

The Babbitt Mine in Silver Bay received the Sentinels of Safety Award for its “commendable safety records and efforts towards accident-prevention programs”.

The title is awarded to the workplace with the greatest number of employee workhours without injuries or fatalities.

The mine achieved more than 366,000 employee hours without a reportable incident in 2007.

According to the Mine Safety and Health Administration [www.msha.gov] (MSHA), the mine consistently demonstrated its commitment to employee safety.
