SWICK Mining Services has been recognised for excellence in occupational health and safety for its Underground Diamond drill-rig at the Australian Mining Prospect Awards in Sydney.

The Prospect Awards was held at Sydney’s Cockle Bay Wharf on 22 October 2008 to encourage, recognise and reward excellence in the mining industry.

The Excellence in Occupational Health and Safety Award, sponsored by Sandvik, recognises improved safety standards using new technology, innovative processes and techniques.

Swick’s underground diamond drill rig consists of a LM90 short feed Boart Longyear drill that is fitted to an Atlas Copco H104 carrier. According to the company, it allows for all components to be mounted on a mobile unit. The boom configuration also allows for fast and sturdy drill set ups with 360 degree capability.

Jan Lichos’ Brake Diagnostic Tool was also highly commended for the award.
