FIRE Rescue Safety Australia has given Mining Safety a sneak preview of a new vehicle which will not be officially launched until AFAC in September 2009 at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.
The vehicle was originally designed for Oil, Gas, Coal and Metalliferous Mining and exploration Exploration. However the R.I.V. has since been developed even further and is suitable for a number of industries.
Fire Rescue Safety Australia says that the response it received from Emergency Management Queensland was exceptional to say the least.
The group says it plans on having the vehicle approved by DOTARS. The vehicle has been specifically developed and designed with occupant safety a major factor as well the impact on the environment with the products being used in the suppression and wetting of the fire.
Safety has been the key focus, from the Standard fitment of Internal and external R.O.P.S Systems, Roof mounted Pro-Cab unit which can deliver up to 23 Min of O2 on board for 5 people (depending on usage of people on board) in case of flame over. Unit can also protect itself against fire if required. However, the environment has also been considered, the products used have no impact so the EPA will have no issues when comparing to what is being used at the moment by others.
Fitment of Genesis Extrication equipment, extra BA Cylinders if required, the vehicle will also have the ability to fill from pumper trucks eventually, so time management in getting back to face of the fire or whatever job the vehicle is assigned to (minimal down time).
The R.I.V will come in three basic platforms in Single and Dual cab 4x4 configuration only.
