Shuttlecar accident prompts safety alert

A shuttlecar accident at an underground coal mine has prompted the Queensland Department of Mines and Energy to issue a safety alert.

According to the DME, a worker was standing alongside a shuttlecar during loading operations in a ‘no go’ zone. When the car was moving outbye it started to slide towards him, which caused the rear of the vehicle to swing towards the pedestrian and coal rib.

No workers were injured in the accident.

The DME is prompting mining management to ensure workers are not standing in machinery operating zones and to review ‘no go’ and ‘restricted’ areas.

The department is also urging all personnel entering underground production zones to inform ERZ controllers beforehand and advise other workers of their intentions.
