Seismic activity no cause for concern: Beaconsfield

AN INQUEST has heard increased seismic activity three months before a fatal rockfall at the Beaconsfield Gold Mine in April 2006 was no cause for safety concern.

According to the mine’s former manager, Matthew Gill, the site experienced its fourth largest mining-induced tremor in January 2006.

Gill says the activity was prompted by the removal of critical pillar supports and did not cause any concern as it was expected.

The inquest continues.
