THREE Australian researchers will be commended for their efforts in the largest study of occupational health and safety in the Australian mining industry.

Associate Professor Verna Blewett, Dr Sally Ferguson and Professor Drew Dawson are among an international team of OHS researchers to be awarded this year’s IEA/Liberty Mutual Medal in Occupational Safety and Ergonomics.

The ‘Digging Deeper’ study was conducted for the NSW Mine Safety Advisory Council to guide the industry to manage occupational health and safety more effectively.

Prof Blewett says the study has the “potential to change mine safety and conditions all over the world”.

The award will be presented at the 44th annual conference of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia (HFESA) at UniSA in Adelaide from November 17.
