FROST & Sullivan says that demand for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is set to rise in conjunction with the growing global awareness of the need to provide safe working environments.
An increase in mining accidents resulting in injuries and fatalities has had an instant effect on the PPE market, with companies witnessing an immediate impact on their sales.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan covers the following segments: head, eye & hearing protection; respiratory protection; protective clothing, gloves and footwear.
The analysts say that continued transparency over issues such as industrial accident rates will sustain PPE sales.
The researchers say that they found an alarming amount of PPE suppliers still encounter customers with the view that 'if we could work with the equipment we had 40 years ago, we can still work like that now’.
The group says while attitudes are slow to change, the best way to encourage workers to wear appropriate PPE is by developing application-oriented products. For instance, users are aware of the need to wear gloves, but choose not to, because cheap and bulky gloves seriously hinder their ability to perform their jobs. In this particular case, marketing efforts must therefore focus on the dexterity offered by the new generation of modern gloves.
