SA Government defends workplace safety laws

THE South Australian government is defending the time it has taken to modify its workplace health and safety laws.

Industrial relations minister, Paul Caica, hopes the amended laws will be introduced to parliament by the end of the year.

The government vowed to change laws in 2006 to provide safety representatives with easier access to work sites.

Unions say people must be held accountable for workplace accidents, and the government’s schedules are unrealistic.

Recently appointed Caica is amid talks with unions to ensure their voices are expressed in the planned legislation.
