RIO Tinto says that it continues to be concerned for the health and safety of Stern Hu but has reported that Hu expressed no welfare or medical concerns when he was visited by Australian Consular officials.

Rio Tinto chief executive Sam Walsh says the mining company remains surprised and concerned over the detention of its four employees, and says it has still not been informed of any charges against them.

Walsh claims the company is committed to high standards in business integrity and takes its ethical responsibilities very seriously.

Walsh has thanked the Australian Government for the attention it is giving to this case and to Stern Hu’s welfare.
