THE University of Queensland (UQ) is boosting its research and education services to increase the expertise of its graduates and boost safety in the resources sector.

UQ will join with the Queensland Resources Council (QRC) to build on existing partnerships and increase the number and expertise of graduates employed in the minerals and energy industries.

The two entities have formed joint partnerships in the past with hopes to benefit mining health and safety, minerals processing, and mining metallurgy.

UQ Vice-Chancellor, Paul Greenfield, says while the companies have achieved great so far, more progress is needed.

The joint venture will develop research programs covering safety, social responsibility, minerals processing and environmental factors.

Greenfield says stronger working relationships with industry groups and its member companies will improve the value to the mining sector’s operations.
