THE QUEENSLAND Department of Mines and Energy held mining safety workshops at the Blackwater International Coal Centre on 11 and 12 August 2009.

The department says the workshops were designed to raise awareness of collision avoidance technology for mining employees.

The initiative followed a series of recent accidents, including the death of contractor John Barker who was crushed when the ute he was driving collided with a piece of heavy machinery at Blackwater Mine in April 2009.
