QLD miners Memorial Day

The QLD state government will hold a memorial day to honour the lives of workers who have died in mining tragedies.

The Miners Memorial Day will be held on 19 September, commemorating a coal dust explosion that killed 75 miners at Mount Mulligan in 1921.

The inaugural event will be held in Brisbane’s Roma Street Parklands.

QLD Mines and Energy Minister, Geoff Wilson, says, "While we enjoy the benefits of the resources boom, we should reflect on how we got here and at what price - that's what Miners Memorial Day is all about.”

He says it will shine a light on the safety and health of those who work in Queensland mines.
