THE QUEENSLAND Department of Mines and Energy (DEM) has announced its plans to visit the state's coal mines.

The visits are part of the group’s effort to improve health and safety in the mining industry following the results of a survey it conducted in December 2008.

The group plans to help companies implement effective programs that deal with drugs, alcohol, fatigue and physical and psychological health.
