Planned mining operations in TAS blast out of control

TASMANIAN miners have been warned to take extra safety precautions when blasting after two planned explosions caused damage.

Workplace Standards says that fortunately no-one was seriously hurt in either explosion.

Managing director Roy Ormerod says Workplace Standards has decided not to lay charges over the blasts but says that miners will need to adjust their plans to ensure it doesn't happen again.

The department investigated explosions at the Beaconsfield Gold Mine in January in 2008 and a similar incident at Copper Mines of Tasmania in Queenstown in February.
