PERILAYA has highlighted the safety performance at its Broken Hill mining operations in the June quarter.
According to Perilaya, the June quarter continued the positive trends in both lead and lag indicators. The mine’s All Injury Frequency Rate dropped to the lowest level in the company’s history.
There was one lost time injury and two medically treated injuries of a minor nature recorded during the quarter.
Perilaya claims its safety programs such as “Take Time Take Charge”, hazard reporting, incident notification and investigations all showed significant improvements in both quality and quantity.
The miner says the proactive safety programs and the identification and control of hazards have become part of the organisational culture.
The reduced incidents and injuries also resulted in a significant reduction in equipment damage incidents and lower repair costs.
Perilaya says it will continue with regular auditing of the Broken Hill operations’ mine safety management plan elements, as well as in-house auditing of shop floor processes. Major audits of both Emergency Response and Injury Management systems are planned for the September quarter.
