Parents concerned about silica dust safety

BALD Hills State School parents are concerned that silica dust from the Neilsen’s proposed sand and gravel mining will harm their children.

The proposal is for mining of the Bald Hills flats, which backs on to the Bald Hills State School oval.

Parents say a proposed 200m buffer zone, including a 125m native vegetation buffer, between the mine and the school is not enough protection for their children.

Neilsen's chief executive officer Mario Panuccio says there have been no reported health issues relating to crystalline silica or any other dust.
