THE Western Australian DPI has restructured its departments to put more focus on the mining sector and improve health and safety processes.

According to the Department of Primary Industries (DPI), the newly formed WA Department of Mines and Petroleum will be the lead agency in regulating mining, petroleum, geothermal and carbon capture and storage activities in the state.

The department will also ensure safety, health and environmental standards are consistent with relevant State and Commonwealth legislation and policies.

The new division will also work to improve approvals processes for the resources sector and develop new initiatives for carbon capture and storage.
