ENVIRONMENTALISTS are concerned about the safety of extraction processes described in an environmental impact statement for Capital Mining’s proposed Monaro mine in New South Wales.
The mine proposes to use the highly toxic chemical sodium cyanide which is a very hazardous toxic substance as far as humans and any living thing is concerned.
But the company says sodium cyanide is only used in small amounts in the extraction process and the chemical does not pose a health risk.
Capital Mining’s proposal is being assessed by the State Planning Department and the Cooma-Monaro Shire Council.
