A 360 degree spherical imaging system that allows users to take a virtual tour of a site reducing the need for on-site visits has been announced as a finalist in the 2009 WorkCover NSW SafeWork Awards.

The SiteSee system from AAMHatch was one of 119 entries in this year's awards, which recognise the importance of workplace safety. SiteSee was a finalist in the category "best solution to an identified workplace health and safety issue".

SiteSee is becoming a valuable tool to support mining and industrial engineering projects around Australia and the world. SiteSee generates a virtual tour through the use of 360 degree spherical imaging technology which reduces the need for onsite visits and enhances the accuracy and completeness of desktop, office based analysis.

The 360° views offered by SiteSee enable users to visualise features as if they were actually there. It is said be a safe method of visualising hazardous sites and an efficient way of "walking through" a remote site without leaving your office.

The spherical imagery can be accurately georeferenced by a navigation system that is connected

to the camera. This permits the imagery to be integrated with GIS or BingMap/Google Maps. AAMHatch is also investigating using SiteSee as a forensic tool, for digitally preserving accident scenes for analysis in safety reviews.
