Miners reminded to be SunSmart

MINING companies are being urged to book SunSmart workplace education sessions to ensure the health and safety of their workers.

If companies book by 13 November 2009 the organisation will enter the draw to win one of three Cancer Council shop vouchers to the value of $500.

This prize will be drawn during National Skin Cancer Action Week which is held between 15 and 21 November 2009.

SunSmart says UV radiation is an occupational hazard. Outdoor workers, such as those in the mining industry, face a higher risk of skin cancer given the amount of time they are exposed to UV from direct sunlight and reflected from surrounding surfaces.

SunSmart says the one-hour education session can help an organisation reduce possible occupational hazards relating to UV radiation and importantly assist with compliance to current Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

If you would like any further information on the SunSmartWorkplace Services (including session costs) or to make a booking, please contact SunSmart on 9635 5148 or sunsmart@cancervic.org.au.
