A MINER has been fined for an incident which resulted in the death of a colleague at BHP’s Cannington mine in 2006.

Peter Barret and Daniel Hensler were working at the silver-lead mine in Queensland on 15 December 2006 when the man-basket Hensler was in detached from a carriage being driven by Barret and fell to the ground.

Barret was fined $1200 for failing to check locking pins in the man-basket attachment, with no conviction recorded.

The Mines Inspectorate has since released a safety bulletin titled ‘Integrated tool carrier risk management’ to prevent similar accidents occurring in the future.
