TASMANIAN’S have gathered to remember the state’s 106 workers that have died at work in the past decade.

The memorial service was held at Hobart on 28 April 2009. 106 candles were lit to represent the dead.

The service follow the release of figures from a report by the Australian Safety Compensation Council which has revealed more people die at work than they do on the roads.

In Tasmania, the construction, forestry and mining industries have the highest number of workplace deaths and injuries.

The mining industry is widely considered the most dangerous and it is important that stringent safety practises are in place to avoid workplace injuries and fatalities.
