A YOUNG girl found to have elevated lead levels in north-west Queensland has landed Xstrata back in court.

Legal action is being taken over the case of six-year-old Stella Hare who recorded high lead levels earlier in 2008.

A court ordered Xstrata to hand over documents relating to lead levels in September 2008, but the company has stalled proceedings until an appeal is heard later in 2008.

Xstrata spokesperson, Steve De Kruijff, says the company takes the health and welfare of children very seriously and it is important to the community that all parties understand the issue.

It is expected the legal case could take several months to resolve.
