A GOLD producer has boosted safety in a Tanzanian mine with an advanced laser scanning system.

The three-dimensional laser mapping system, supplied by 3D Laser Mapping, continuously monitors areas of mine sites prone to failure.

The technology incorporates a long-range laser scanning unit with an integrated digital camera and advanced operating software in the one unit.

The system will provide early warning of movements within mine walls, allowing managers to take preventative action.

The model is able to capture centimetre-accurate measurements at distances of up to 2.5km to provide constant data collection and analysis. It allows workers to operate from a permanent, secure location to optimise safety on mine sites.

The solution is said to be reliable, economical and effective, and minimises the impact of failure in mining operations.
