AN INQUEST has heard more could have been done to prevent the death of a central Queensland coal miner in April 2007.

Thirty-three year old Jason Blee was killed at the Moranbah North mine after he was crushed between a coal shuttle car and a mine wall.

The mine deputy at the time of the accident told the court he believed safety systems were adequate to safeguard workers.

However, the council assisting the coroner expressed concern about the lack for updated information after a similar crushing incident occurred before Mr Blee’s death.

The inquest is expected to continue for a week.
