THE FOSTERVILLE Mine Rescue Team claimed victory at the 16th Annual Victorian Underground Mine Rescue Competition held in Bendigo from 2nd August 2008.

Nine rescue teams from three states converged at the Bendigo Gold Mine in Kangaroo Flat and other mining sites across central Victoria for the event.

The competition is designed to provide practical training to mine site rescue teams and improve the safety and health of people in the mining industry.

MCA Assistant Director for Safety and Health, Megan Davison, says the competition encourages rescue workers to use teamwork and build skills vital to emergency rescue squads.

The teams were judged on their ability to use equipment and complete rescue tasks.
