THE NSW Mines Safety Advisory Council (MSAC) has unveiled plans to develop a fatigue risk management standard for the NSW mining industry.

MSAC chairman, Norman Jennings, told The Safety conference on 29 October 2008 of plans to develop an industry-wide fatigue management standard to boost workplace health and safety.

“A united approach by all industry stakeholders is essential to achieve world-class health and safety benchmarks,” Jennings said.

The standard addresses hours-of-work issues and principles concerning the management of fatigue based on current models.

“The outcome will be a specific document that closes gaps in current fatigue guidance material,” he said.
