THEENVIRONMENTAL Protection Agency (EPA) has raised concern about the safety of two creeks in Queensland believed to be contaminated.
The EPA says it is concerned about the impact of heavy metals releases caused by the apparent failure of a waste dam at the Lady Annie Mine.
Officials have warned the community not to swim or drink the water in the creeks.
The agency believes the water contains elevated levels of heavy metals such as copper and is installing equipment at the site to direct contaminated water away from the failed dam at the mine and into an adjacent mine pit.
