Coronial inquest questions autopsy procedures

A CORONIAL inquest into the death of a Queensland miner has pushed a forensic pathologist to recommend changes to the state’s autopsy procedures.

An inquest into the death of Jason Blee recently heard from forensic pathologist, Johan Duflou, who criticised the way Mr Blee’s autopsy, was conducted.

Duflou claimed X-rays were not taken after the accident, in which Blee was crushed between a coal shuttle car and a wall at the Moranbah North Mine in April 2007.

Duflou says all future autopsies of industrial accidents should be conducted by forensic pathologists, and has recommended Brisbane’s John Tonge Centre as the preferred establishment.
