A COAL miner has been killed at a coal exploration site in north Queensland.

According to the Department of Mines and Energy (DME), the worker was crushed between a gate and a water truck which rolled onto him on 29 September 2008.

A team of inspectors from Townsville and Mackay have travelled to the site, 180 km south of Charters Towers, to investigate the incident.

A detailed report will be provided to the chief inspector at a later date.
