CFMEU wants compulsory rescue staff for mine shifts

THE CONSTRUCTION, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union is calling for changes to be made to the Coal Health and Safety Act.

The group wants it to be compulsory for all shifts to have qualified search and rescue staff to improve safety.

While there are requirements for underground mines, there are no mandatory standards for open-cut mining.

Gavin Taylor from the Queensland Mines Inspectorate says the issue has never been formally raised with it.
