A MINE rescue team from the Bowen Basin has claimed victory in an international competition in the U.S.

The ‘2008 Metal/Nonmetal Mine Rescue Contest’ featured more than 40 teams representing seven countries.

Teams were judged according to their efficiency in solving hypothetical mine emergency problems, and their adherence to safety procedures.

The seven-strong team from the Dysart Rescue Station in Moranbah’s north was trained by Queensland Mines Rescue Service (QMRS).

The Department of Mines and Energy (DME) says the win reflects Australia’s international reputation for the world’s best safety and training practices.
