BHP HAS restarted its iron ore operations in the Pilbara following the death of a second miner in ten days.

The mining giant suspended all Western Australian iron ore operations after a 19-year old worker was killed at its Yandi mine on 4 September 2008.

The Yandi site remains closed while investigations continue.

The fatality marks the fourth death at a BHP operation within the past month.

Yandi is approximately 140 kilometres north west of Newman, and produces approximately 10% of BHP’s globally traded iron ore.
