BHP Billiton restarts Yandi iron ore mine after fatality

BHP HAS reopened its Yandi mine in Western Australia, a day after it was closed following the death of a worker.

The mine was closed on 26 August 2008 while police investigated the death of a 29-year-old employee working at the mine.

The company says it is gradually restarting operations while the investigation continues, and the closure has only had minimal impact given its short duration.

The iron ore mine is one of the largest of its kind in the Pilbara iron belt of WA, yielding nearly 13% of Australia’s exportable ore.
