Automated mining technology improves mine safety

THE CSIRO has developed a longwall mining automation technology which will increase mine safety.

Eickhoff Australia is the most recent company to sign a licensing agreement with organisation to gain access to the LASC automation.

The longwall shearer supplier says the automation of underground longwall mining increases mine safety by moving miners away from hazardous, noisy and dusty environments.

The CSIRO received funding from the Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP) to develop the technology which locates and guides coal cutting equipment in longwall mines.

ACARP says this is the third signing of a non-exclusive license for CSIRO’s longwall automation technology. Eickhoff claims more companies will follow very quickly.
