AUSTRALIAN Mining has named finalists in the ‘Excellence in Occupational Health and Safety’ category of its 5th annual Mining Prospect Awards.

The Prospect Awards recognise strength, resilience and innovation within the Australian minerals industry, and acknowledge efficient and productive methods in mining.

According to organisers, this year’s awards have seen a high level of entrants promoting growth, innovation, sustainability and safety in Australian mines.

Alcoa has been commended for its hydraulic lifting housing and bearing lifting jig, while Swick Mining has also been acknowledged for its underground diamond drill rig.

Springvale Coal and the Mount Thorley Warkworth Mine were also named as finalists, as well as Bill McCurry and Jan Lichos for her brake diagnostic tool.

The winner will be announced on 22 October 2008 at Sydney’s Cockle Bay Wharf in Darling Harbour.
