THE INTERNATIONAL Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) and Outokumpu have released a new toolkit to plan for responsible mine closures.

The updated guideline, Planning for Integrated Mine Closure, provides guidance for responsible and sustainable closure of mine sites.

The publication is structured according to the mine life cycle and deals with a range of issues, from stakeholder engagement to environmental management.

Safe and responsible practices are said to reduce environmental and social impacts of mine sites and protect public health and safety.
